A hip fit for an athlete

19th July 2016 | JRI News
'Triathlete Michael Rix pictured as he prepares to race near his home in Pullborough. Michael has recently undergone a hip operation.

When Michael Rix was diagnosed with osteoarthritis at the age of 40 he thought he’d never be able to compete again which was devastating news for someone who regularly competed in triathlons, marathons and ironman events. But after a consultation with leading orthopaedic surgeon Mr Kerry Acton, Michael was advised that by having a Furlong Evolution stem implanted he would be able to get back to training. This was possible due to the design principles of the stem making it ideal for young active patients and within two weeks of surgery Micheal was back to training and 12 weeks later he had won a triathlon.
